CEC Meeting of NGOs Express Concern Over Persistent Challenges Faced by Govt. Employees Posted in South Andaman and Outer Islands

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 26: The Central Executive Committee meeting of the Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, was convened recently at Sri Vijaya Puram under the chairmanship of Shri R.D. Yadav, Vice President of the Association. The meeting expressed serious concern over the persistent challenges faced by government employees posted in South Andaman and the outer islands.

The Committee noted with dismay that the A & N Administration has not adequately addressed the welfare needs of employees stationed in the southern group of islands. These employees continue to face significant hardships, including lack of access to government accommodation, inadequate healthcare facilities, irregular shipping services, and delays in timely relieving on transfers, etc.

A major point of discussion was the recent General Transfer orders issued by the Education Department. The Committee observed that several transfers appeared to violate the established transfer policy and station seniority norms, raising concerns about transparency and fairness. Despite clear directives from the A & N Administration to complete the transfer process by April–May, the issuance of transfer orders till late October has caused undue disruption to the lives of affected employees and their families.

The Committee resolved to take up these matters strongly with the concerned authorities in the coming days.

In addition to the above, the meeting deliberated on several other key issues which include (i) Pay upgradation for Lower Grade Clerks (LGCs) and Higher Grade Clerks (HGCs) (ii) Induction training for newly appointed LGCs and in-service training for Assistant Cadre staff (iii) Conduct of awareness workshop on various aspects of the Universal Pension Scheme (UPS) and National Pension System (NPS) (iv) Planning and organization of the Association’s Annual Conference (v) Programmes addressing the delay in implementation of the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) (vi) Publication of Station Seniority list and posting profile of employees in every department.

Earlier, Shri R. Rajendran, General Secretary, briefed the members on recent developments and ongoing initiatives of the Association. Other office bearers including Shri S.L. Vinjit and Shri R.K. Nag (Assistant General Secretaries), Smt. Jothi Malar (Organising Secretary), and Shri Sasi Pillai (Executive Member) also shared their views and suggestions on the discussed matters.
