Chess Summer Camp 2025 Concludes with Enthusiastic Zonal Tournament

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 4: The Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School Auditorium in Sri Vijaya Puram was abuzz with excitement as over 150 young chess players from the four chess camps across Sri Vijaya Puram and Wimberly Gunj Zones came together for the Zonal Chess Meet – the Closing Tournament of the Chess Summer Camp 2025. This event marked the successful culmination of the month-long summer chess training program organized by the Directorate of Education.

Shri Vikram Singh, Director of Education, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, he lauded the dedication and talent of the young participants and expressed his confidence that a Grandmaster would soon emerge from the islands.  He encouraged parents to actively support their children’s interest in chess by encouraging regular practice and learning at home.

The event was formally inaugurated by Shri Gyan Sheel Dubey, Head of Office, Directorate of Education, who made the ceremonial first move on the giant chessboard against Smti Archana Singh, Deputy Director of Education (Planning), in the presence of Shri Mohd Irshad Ahmed, Assistant Director (PE/Sports), Department of Education.

The players had undergone a month-long training at four dedicated chess camps held at zonal centers: GMSSS Abderdeen, GMSSS Ferrargunj, GSSS Manglutan, and GSSS Wimberlygunj. The tournament was designed to provide students with first-hand exposure to formal competitive play, allowing them to implement the strategies learned during their training and to experience the atmosphere of a real tournament setting.
