
Sri Vijaya Puram, April 2: At the call given by the central trade unions, workers all over the country observed 1st April, 2026 as BLACK DAY by organising various programmes, to register their protest against Modi-government’s decision to implement the four Labour Codes with effect from 1.4.2026.
At Port Blair, CITU Andaman & Nicobar State Committee organised a Mass Demonstration in front of the Municipal Council office at Aberdeen Bazar.
Inaugurating the mass demonstration, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee lambasted the central government for ignoring the strong opposition from central trade unions against the enactment and implementation of the four labour codes. He said that by repealing the existing 29 labour laws, the Modi-government has brought forward these four labour codes to favour the corporate sector at the cost of workers.
Addressing the gathering R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU State Committee said that the fight against the anti-working classes laws will continue and the workers in A&N Islands are strongly backing the CITU in this fight.
SP Kalairajan, Secretary, CITU also addressed the gathering. The mass demonstration was led by BC Bhattacherjee, Vice President and P. Sathyapal, Anand Rajan, M. Yugander and R. Rajendran, Secretaries of CITU State Committee.
Undeterred by light rain, workers from different unions working at Port Blair town gathered in large numbers.
