
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 30: As per the call given by the CPI (M) Central Committee to undertake a week-long campaign against dilution of Rural Employment Guarantee Act from 30th January, 2026 (Death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi), the campaign in Andaman & Nicobar Islands began today (30.01.2026) with CPI (M) leaders and cadres visiting the houses of job-card holders and agriculture workers who were involved in the MGNREGA work in different parts of the union territory. A team comprsing D. Ayyappan, State Secretary, Dr Gouranga Majhi, State Secretariat Member, S. Chidambaram, South Andaman Rural Area Committee Member and others visited the houses of Job-Card holders and farmers of Ferrargunj Gram Panchayat and explained the BJP government’s systematic dilution of the MGNREGA Scheme. CPI (M) leaders explained to the farmers and job-card holders that the central government by repealing the MGNREGA and bringing in its place the VBGRAMG is trying to deny jobs to rural unemployed people.
At Middle Andaman, CPI (M) State Secretariat Members Projit Kumar Sarkar and PK Khalid led the campaign. Projit Kumar Sarkar and others campaigned at Urmilapur and Bakultala Gram Panchayat areas while PK Khalid and others campaigned at Shivapuram Gram Panchyat area.
The week-long campaign of visit to houses of job-card holders and agriculture workers will continue throughout the islands by CPI (M) leaders and cadres till 5th February 2026.
