DDM in Coordination with Tribal Welfare Department Organise Basic Disaster Management Training Programme

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 20: The Directorate of Disaster Management (DDM), A&N Administration in coordination with the Directorate of Tribal Welfare organized a one-day Basic Disaster Management Training Programme for Officers / Officials of Tribal Welfare and Andaman Adim Janjati Vikas Samiti (AAJVS) today in the Training Hall of Aapda Prabandhan Bhawan, Sri Vijaya Puram.

The programme was aimed to enhance knowledge, skills and preparedness in disaster risk reduction, mitigation, response and recovery with special focus on the unique vulnerabilities of tribal communities in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Addressing the participants, Smt. Priyanka Kumari, Director (Disaster Management), emphasized the vital role of Officers / Officials in ensuring the safety and well-being of Tribal community during emergencies. She stated that the trained Officers / Officials play a crucial role in building resilience within tribal community.

The training covered important aspects of Basic Disaster Management, Disaster Preparedness and Risk Reduction, Early Warning and Communication, Evacuation Procedures, Search & Rescue (SAR), Medical First Response (MFR), Fire Safety and Community-Based Disaster Preparedness. The participants were also sensitized on the importance of preparing communities for emergencies while taking into consideration the local geographical, social and cultural context of tribal areas.

In the inaugural session, Shri Janik Ram, Assistant Director (Admn.), Directorate of Disaster Management, highlighted the importance of strengthening disaster preparedness. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri Sudev Kumar, Statistical Officer.
