
Sri Vijaya Puram, May 13: The Directorate of Disaster Management (DDM), in coordination with the Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs is organizing 3-day Basic Disaster Management Training Programme from 13th to 15th May, 2026 in the Training Hall of Aapda Prabandhan Bhawan for Panchayat Secretaries, Village Level Workers and Gram Sevak to strengthen disaster preparedness in the Gram Panchayats of this UT.
The primary aim of the programme is to strengthen preparedness at Gram Panchayat level ensure timely dissemination of early warnings, effective evacuation, and immediate response, thereby minimizing loss of life and property.
Addressing the gathering, Smti Priyanka Kumari, Director (Disaster Management) as the chief guest emphasized the critical role of Gram Panchayats as first responders during emergencies in community. She highlighted that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are highly vulnerable to natural hazards such as earthquakes and tsunamis, and stressed that preparedness at the Panchayat level is essential to minimize risks. She urged all participants to actively engage in the training sessions and apply the knowledge in their respective Gram Panchayats by developing practical and effective Disaster Management activities.
The three-day training programme will cover key components such as Basics of Disaster Management, Community level Safety, development of Gram Panchayat Level Disaster Management Plan, Search and Rescue (SAR), Medical First Response (MFR), and Fire Safety. The sessions include both theoretical inputs and hands-on practical training conducted by experts from the Disaster Management, RD, PRIs & ULBs, Health, NDRF, and Fire Services Departments.
Earlier, Shri Janik Ram, Assistant Director (Admn.), DDM, welcomed the gathering while Shri Sudev Kumar, Statistical Officer, DDM proposed the vote of thanks.
