Sri Vijaya Puram, July 22: A delegation of Education Department Part-time Employees Union (CITU) comprising P. Sathyapal, President, R. Surendran Pillai, General Secretary and D. Krishna Rao, Vice President met the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration on 21st July, 2026 and urged him to revise the pay of the Part-time Craft Instructors, Part-time Pre-Primary Teachers, Part-time Pre-Primary Ayahs and Part-time Attendants of Education Department who are working against the sanctioned posts but on part-time basis.
Referring to the letter dated 3rd July, 2026 submitted to the Chief Secretary from the Union on the said issue, the delegation brought to the notice of the Chief Secretary the low wages the above categories of teaching and non-teaching staff are getting now. The union leaders demanded a substantial hike in their monthly wages.
Union leaders submitted before the Chief Secretary that while the price rise is compensated by granting DA/VDA for government employees and private sector workers, such DA/VDA is not made applicable to these part-time teachers and staff because of which their pay has not undergone any changes during the last three years.
Chief Secretary said that the matter will be examined by the Administration as per rules.
