Department of AH&VS Conducts Training on Fodder Cultivation and Management at Sabari

Sabari, July 29: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), conducted a two-day training program on fodder cultivation and management on July 28 and 29, 2025, at the residence of Farmer, Shri Subhash Mall in Sabari, Middle Andaman. The initiative aimed to enhance livestock productivity by equipping farmers with skills for sustainable fodder production.

The program was inaugurated by the Ward Member of Sabari Panchayat yesterday. Dr. Aleena Rajan, Senior Veterinary Officer, led a theoretical session, educating 20 farmers on various fodder crops, their importance, and methods for cultivation and management. The session covered soil preparation, seed selection, and irrigation techniques to ensure a consistent supply of nutritious fodder. Practical training followed, with hands-on guidance on land preparation and planting, enabling farmers to apply these techniques directly to their farming practices.

On July 29, 2025, the training continued with additional theoretical classes to reinforce key concepts. The Pradhan of Sabari Panchayat attended the program and felicitated the participants, acknowledging their commitment to improving livestock management. The Pradhan commended the AH&VS Department for organizing village-level training, emphasizing its role in empowering local farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

The program reflects the AH&VS Department’s dedication to fostering animal husbandry activities in the A&N Islands. By providing both theoretical and practical training, the Department, with ATMA’s support, seeks to enhance fodder availability, improve animal health, and boost rural livelihoods. The active participation of 20 farmers and elected representatives underscores the community’s enthusiasm for adopting modern farming techniques. The Department plans to conduct similar village-level programs to ensure farmers across the Islands have access to essential knowledge and resources, aligning with the A&N Administration’s vision of sustainable rural development.
