Department of AH&VS Establishes Veterinary Sub Dispensary at Little Andaman

Little Andaman, July 2: In response to the long-standing demand from the rural populace and Panchayat Raj Institution (PRI) members of Rabindra Nagar Panchayat, Little Andaman, the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Department established a Veterinary Sub Dispensary (VSD) on 1st July 2025. The services started functioning from a temporary accommodation address this critical need, ensuring enhanced access to veterinary services for the community. The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Pradhan, Ex-Pradhan, Sarpanch, PRI members, and a large gathering of villagers.

During the event, the department distributed approximately 140 ducklings, 60 duck eggs, and 300 quail eggs to villagers, supporting their efforts in poultry and duck farming.

The VSD serves a community of approximately 5,000 residents across approximately 700 households, catering to approximately 1,500 livestock, 500 dogs, and 9,000 poultry and ducks, totalling approximately 11000 animals. The establishment of this dispensary underscores the AH&VS Department’s commitment to improving animal healthcare and promoting sustainable livelihoods in remote areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Villagers and PRI members expressed their appreciation to the department, particularly to the Secretary (AH&VS), and the A&N Administration for addressing their long-standing need for accessible veterinary services.
