Department of Telecommunication Launches Citizen-Centric Initiatives to Enhance Mobile Security

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 20 (PIB): The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has launched several citizen-centric digital initiatives to enhance mobile security, prevent fraud, and promote safe telecom usage. Some of these initiatives include Sanchar Saathi, Sanchar Mitra, and others. As part of the ongoing efforts, new features are being added to the Sanchar Saathi platform to further strengthen its services.

Sanchar Saathi – Citizen-Centric Initiative of DoT

Sanchar Saathi is a mobile app and web portal (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in) designed to empower mobile subscribers and enhance digital safety.

Key features include:

a) Chakshu: Report suspected fraud communication and unsolicited commercial calls/SMS

b) Block Lost/Stolen Phones: Prevent misuse of lost mobile devices

c) Check Mobile Connections: Identify unauthorised numbers issued using your ID

d) Verify Handset Authenticity: Check IMEI genuineness

e) Report International Calls Displaying Indian Numbers (Spoofing)

f) Know Your Wireline ISP: Identify nearby wire line Internet Service provider based on PIN CODE

g) Trusted Contacts (New Feature): Contact details of the bank/financial institution to verify the genuineness of the communication.

Sachar Mitra Initiative

Sanchar Mitra Scheme under the 2.0 Program is a nationwide initiative by the Government of India that promotes digital literacy and cyber safety through student volunteers, while enhancing public awareness about telecom services and responsible digital usage. Under this program, 7 students from DBRIET, Andaman & Nicobar, have been appointed as Sanchar Mitras.

These Sachar Mitras are responsible for creating public awareness on:

a) Sanchar Saathi portal and its applications

b) EMF/EMR radiation safety guidelines

c) Cyber security and digital safety

d) Till now 1399, Mobiles Blocked through Sanchar Sathi / CEIR and 513 Mobiles are   Recovered.

e) All mobile users are encouraged to download the Sanchar Saathi application and help their friends and family do the same. Users are also requested to make full use of its features, such as checking all mobile connections registered in their name, blocking a mobile phone in case of loss or theft, and reporting fraudulent communications.
