Department of Tourism in Collaboration with CIARI to Organise Special Program on Agro Tourism

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 4: As part of its ongoing endeavour to promote sustainable and experience-based tourism in A&N Islands, the Department of Tourism, A&N Administration, in collaboration with the Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), is organizing a special programme focused on Agro Tourism tomorrow (June 5).

The event includes a guided farm walk ‘Dweep Agro Eco Walk’ at Sippighat from 7 am to 9 am, offering participants an immersive guided tour through the agricultural landscapes of the region. This initiative is envisioned as an interactive platform to showcase the potential of agro-ecological landscapes in attracting travelers interested in sustainable tourism models.

The guided tour will be followed by a Lecture Series which will be held at the Dr. T.R. Dutta Conference Hall, CIARI, Bhatubasti from 10 am onwards.  Eminent Scientists from CIARI will deliver insights on:

• Rare and Wild Indigenous Flowers, Fruits and Medicinal Plants of A&N Islands- by Dr. Ramakrishna, Principal Scientist & Head, KVK-South Andaman.

• Agro Eco Tourism with Special Reference to Horticulture’-by Dr. Raj Narayan, Head, Division of Horticulture and Forestry, CIARI.

This initiative reflects the Administration’s commitment to diversifying tourism offerings by integrating local agriculture, scientific research, and community participation. It also aims to raise awareness about the Islands’ unique fruits, flowers and medicinal plant diversity and their potential in enhancing visitor experience through Agro Eco Tourism. It may also provide a step towards integrating agriculture, research, and tourism for the sustainable development of the Islands and to explore avenues for its interpretation within the framework of responsible tourism.
