Deputy Commissioner Inaugurates Weekend Yoga Session at Sippighat Panchayat

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 8: As per the initiative of the District Health Society (District Administration, South Andaman) in coordination with the Directorate of Health Services regarding the conduct of regular community yoga sessions across the district, a weekend Yoga Session was inaugurated today at the Sippighat Panchayat Community Hall. Ms. Purva Garg, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, inaugurated the session and actively participated in the yoga practice protocol along with the Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Sippighat, officials from the District Administration and Health Department, and members of the general public from the Sippighat area.

During the inaugural session, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman informed that community-level weekend yoga sessions are being conducted at identified community halls / venues every Saturday from 7 AM to 8 AM. In addition, weekly yoga sessions are also being organized at all Health Centres across South Andaman District. The sessions have been organized to encourage community participation and promote healthy lifestyle practices among the public. The initiative also aims to enhance awareness on preventive health through regular yoga activities.

Similarly, participants from the local communities of the respective 55 identified community-level venues actively took part in the yoga sessions organized today, emphasizing the importance of physical activity, mental well-being, and lifestyle modification in preventing non-communicable diseases.

The District Administration and the Health Department have encouraged residents to actively participate in these regular yoga sessions being organized every weekend at the community level and weekly at all Health Centres to promote holistic health and well-being within the community, which is being made possible with the regular coordination and support of PRI members.
