DHS Organises State Level Programme on STOP Diarrhoea Campaign

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 23: A State level programme on STOP Diarrhoea campaign was organized by Directorate of Health Services in association with UT Health Mission today at Community Hall Prothrapur with the ultimate aim of “zero deaths due to childhood diarrhoea among under 5 children”. The event was graced by Dr. Suja Antony, Director of Health Services, A&N Administration as the chief guest. In her address, she emphasized the urgent need to adopt preventive measures, ensure safe drinking water, and encourage handwashing habits. Smt. Radhika, Vice Chairperson/ Councillor, SVPMC, Ward No. 24 as guest of honour thanked Director of Health Services for the efforts taken to decrease childhood death to 16 in A&N Islands as compared to 32/1000 live birth at National level and appreciated the efforts of grassroots health workers and encouraged community participation for sustainable impact.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. H.M Siddaraju, Deputy Director (FW)/ Joint Secretary (RCH-II) briefed the participants about the series of efforts taken by Directorate of Health Services to increase the awareness among general public on Diarrhea. Dr. M. Joy, Chief Medical Officer, In-charge PHC Garacharma also spoke on the occasion.

A skit was performed on demonstration of hand washing practices (6 steps) and preparation of ORS and importance of Zinc Tablet by ANM trainees of ANM Training School, Sri Vijaya Puram.  During the programme, ORS packets, and zinc tablets were distributed to raise awareness on diarrhoea management. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shweta, Medical Officer (RBSK).
