Directorate of Disaster Management Commences Five-Day Civil Defence Training Programme

Sri Vijay Puram, July 8: The Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration in collaboration with Civil Defence, South Andaman has commenced a five-day Civil Defence Training programme from 8th to 12th July, 2025 for 1st Batch of Civil Defence Volunteers (CDVs). The training is being held at the Training Hall of Aapda Prabandhan Bhawan, Link Road, Goalghar, Sri Vijaya Puram and is aimed at equipping CDVs with essential disaster response skills. The objective of the training is to provide basic knowledge and techniques in disaster response, coordination, and management, enabling volunteers to assist in saving lives during emergencies.

During the inaugural session, the chief guest, Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner/Director (Civil Defense), South Andaman emphasized the importance of active involvement by CDVs in the training. He highlighted that only a well-trained and mentally prepared individual can respond to disasters effectively and professionally acting as a first responder at the community level.

Smti Priyanka Kumari, Director (Disaster Management), A&N Administration, expressed her appreciation to all the dignitaries, officials from various resource Departments and NDRF personnel for their presence and support in ensuring the success of the training programme.

The inaugural session concluded with vote of thanks by Shri Janik Ram, Assistant Director (Admn.), Directorate of Disaster Management. Following the inauguration, the first technical session was conducted by officials from the Disaster Management and Health Departments. The training sessions will continue until 12th July, 2025.
