
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 27: The Republic Day Open Blitz Chess Tournament 2026 was successfully organized in connection with the celebration of the 76th Republic Day 2026 by the Directorate of Education, in collaboration with the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA), at Flag Point, Sri Vijaya Puram, yesterday evening. The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 100 chess players, reflecting the growing interest in chess across the islands.
Shri Vikram Singh, DANICS, Director (Education & Sports), A&N Administration, inaugurated the event and made the first move on the top board to formally kickstart the tournament. Addressing the players, he highlighted the importance of sports, especially chess, in promoting critical thinking, discipline, and sportsmanship among students and youth.”
After seven intense rounds of blitz chess, Yuvan Singh secured the first position, while Rohan Singh claimed the second position. K. Jaivardhan Rao finished in the third position.
The closing ceremony was graced by Ms. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, Inspector General of Police, who attended as the Chief Guest. She distributed trophies and medals to the winners and congratulated all participants for their wonderful performances. In her address, she highlighted the origin and evolution of chess and urged young chess players to remain disciplined, focused, and committed in their pursuit of excellence. The top 20 players of the tournament were also felicitated in recognition of their outstanding performances.
