Directorate of Labour, Employment and Training to Offer Free Skill Training to Local Youths Under PMKVY

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 10:  Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) that aims to train 40 million people in new-age skills by 2026. The scheme offers demand-driven and industry-linked skill courses in a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, construction, IT, and healthcare.  It is India’s largest skill certification scheme and the objective is to enable and mobilize a large number of Indian youths to take up outcome-based skill training and become employable and earn their livelihood.

Under PMKVY Yojana, the Directorate of Labour, Employment and Training will offer free skill training to the youths of these Islands as well as to the community at large. Accordingly, the Govt. ITI Dollygunj (South Andaman), Govt. ITI Bakultala, Govt. ITI Arong (Nicobar), DBRAIT, TVET (DBRAIT), JNRM and SOVTECH are designed to equip candidates with industry-relevant skills aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). The skill development courses offered are Assistant Mason, Assistant Electrician (Domestic cum Industrial), Cosmetologist, Fishing Boat Driver (Small Mechanized Vessels up to 24 OAL), Solar PV Installer – Electrical, Plastic Recycling Micro Entrepreneur, Safai Mitra, Digital Mitra, Electric Vehicle Service Lead Technician, Manual Metal Arc Welding (Shield Metal Arc) Welder, CCTV Installation Technician, Adventure Travel Guide (Low Altitude) and Cosmologist.

The duration of these courses ranges from 360 hours to 600 hours, depending on the job role. Eligibility criteria vary by course and generally include minimum educational qualifications ranging from ability to read and write to Class XII, along with relevant experience where applicable. The minimum age requirement ranges from 15 to 18 years depending on the course.

Interested candidates have been advised to visit the respective Government ITIs/Colleges between 9 am and 4.30 pm along with original and a set of photocopies of educational certificates, Proof of age, Aadhaar card and Two passport-size photographs for online registration in the SIDH portal on or before March 12.
