District Health Society to Launch Essential Health Training Programme for School Children Across South Andaman

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 2: As part of an innovative initiative led by Ms. Purva Garg, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, the District Health Society (SA) under the aegis of UT Health Mission-NHM, in coordination with the Directorate of Health Services and the Directorate of Education, South Andaman, is launching a training programme for school students across the district.

Under this initiative, the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) team, with other health vertical programmes health professionals, will impart essential health training to students of Government and Government-aided Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools in South Andaman.

The programme will be conducted in 39 Government and Government-aided schools across the district starting from 04th April 2026, covering students of middle and senior secondary classes. The training aims to equip students with practical knowledge and skills in emergency response and basic health monitoring. The key focus areas of the programme include:

Basic Life Saving Skills: Introduction to emergency response, CPR demonstration and hands-on practice & Importance of calling 102 Ambulance Service during medical emergencies

Basic Health Monitoring: Demonstration of Blood Pressure measurement & Awareness on Blood Sugar monitoring

Health Awareness: Importance of preventive health & Role of students as Community Health Ambassadors and Peer Educators

This initiative is expected to significantly enhance students’ ability to respond effectively during medical emergencies and promote a culture of health awareness within the community and their families.

The District Health Society (SA) has urged all school authorities to extend full cooperation for the successful implementation of the programme, as per the schedule shared in the accompanying office order.
