Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 7: A meeting was held in the District Office in connection with preparedness and law and order arrangements for Ganesh Puja Celebrations- 2026 in South Andaman District, to be celebrated from 14th September, 2026 concluding with immersion of Idols. The officials from line Departments viz. Electricity, Fire, SVPMC, IP & T and other Departments and the Presidents/Secretaries of Ganesh Puja Committees were present during the meeting.
The organizers were directed to follow the prevalent norms and guidelines with regard to fire safety, traffic arrangements, law and order clearances, electricity and cleanliness. Necessary directions were also given to line departments including Electricity, Fire Safety, Health, Police Department, Port Management Board and SVPMC for ensuring peaceful conduct of the festival.
A Help-Desk/Counter is being set up in the District Control Room for all relevant permissions, to facilitate the organizers/participants for the grant of permissions from a single window.
Directives to Pooja Committee Members (for strict compliance)
1. No individual under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances shall be permitted to participate in the immersion procession. The Pooja Committee shall deploy adequate volunteers to monitor and maintain discipline throughout.
2. The use of loudspeakers shall strictly cease to function by 2200 hours (10 PM), in line with the directives of the Hon’ble Apex Court. Any violation shall result in the immediate seizure of the music system and the vehicle concerned.
3. Only limited persons per idol shall be permitted entry for immersion purposes. The Committee shall ensure strict adherence to this directive.
