Mayabunder, Oct. 27: In connection with the ensuing General Election to Panchayats-2027, in North & Middle Andaman District, a draw of lots to determine the seats to be reserved for women was conducted today in the Conference Hall of the Zilla Parishad, N&M Andaman at Lucknow, Mayabunder.
The proceeding was conducted by Shri Sudhanshu Pandey, Election Commissioner (UTs) in the presence of Shri S. K. Gupta (Secretary), Shri Sushant Padha, Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman, Shri S. Krishna Chaitanya, Additional District Magistrate, N&MA and other officers of the District Administration were also present. Representatives of recognised political parties and members of the general public attended the proceeding.
Out of the 450 seats in North & Middle Andaman District, 157 seats are reserved for women. The Draw of Lots conducted was part of the preparatory process for the ensuing Panchayat elections, ensuring transparency and providing an opportunity for the participation of political party representatives and members of the public in the proceedings.
The final list of seats reserved for women shall be notified by the UT Election Commission.
