
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 12: In line with the directive issued by the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to conduct monthly mock drills across Departments for strengthening preparedness and promoting discipline, the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) conducted a Mock Drill on a Boat Capsize scenario.
The drill was conducted on Oct.10 at the Marine Dockyard, simulating the capsize of the vessel ‘ML Ramakrishna’. The exercise was conducted under the overall supervision of the Incident Commander, Shri. B. C. Sarkar, Deputy Director (Shipping Services).
The drill saw active participation from the disaster management team of DSS. As part of the exercise, a total of 20 personnel, simulating passengers and employees, were successfully evacuated to the designated safe area in the Passenger Hall. The scenario involved a coordinated search and rescue operation, where the team boarded ‘MV Mohit’ with essential equipment including a Portable DG Set, Pump Set, and Life Jackets to respond to the simulated emergency.
During the exercise, two cases of minor injuries were simulated and attended to by the first aid team, which was on standby with a Medical First Aid Kit. The entire operation was carried out in a coordinated manner, showcasing efficient response protocols and teamwork.
The Directorate remains committed to ensuring the safety of all passengers, personnel, and marine assets by conducting such preparedness drills. These exercises aim to build a robust culture of readiness and resilience against a spectrum of marine emergencies, including boat capsize incidents.
