Sri Vijaya Puram, June 5: In a major step toward digitization and operational efficiency, the Government Saw Mill, Chatham today launched the Electronic-Saw Mill Application Resource Management and Tracking (e-SMART) application which was developed in association with National Informatics Centre (NIC). The launch coincided with the observance of World Environment Day and was officiated by Shri A.K. Biswal, IFS, PCCF, in the esteemed presence of Shri Sanjay Kumar Sinha, IFS, PCCF, A&N Islands. This will ease the process of indent placement, sale and operations which will help the public, Government Departments, SSI Unit in easy procurement of timber from the Chatham Mill. The application will also provide real time data of all the processes from Log Intake to Sale, which will help in better management and addressing the bottlenecks in supply chain.
The QR code implementation for each timber piece will not only make the sale quick and easy but would also help in Inventory Management of the Timber. The application is in line with the larger Government policy of digitization and using IT technologies for bringing in efficiencies in Government systems.
