Earthquake and Fire Mock Drill Held at Directorate of Economics and Statistics

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 6: In line with the Chief Secretary’s directive to conduct quarterly mock drills across all Departments of the A&N Administration, the Directorate of Disaster Management organized an Earthquake and Fire Mock Drill at the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, South Andaman, Sri Vijaya Puram today. The drill was carried out in coordination with the District Administration, Health, Electricity, Police, and Fire Departments to assess the Department’s readiness to respond to emergency scenarios.

The drill commenced with a simulated earthquake and fire scenario, following which the Department teams carried out safe evacuation, head counted, communicate with State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC-1070), District Emergency Operation Center (DEOC-S/A-1077), and Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112) for emergency supports, search and rescued missing persons and provided first aid to the injured. Fire tenders and ambulances arrived swiftly to manage the incident situation.

After the drill concluded, a debriefing session was conducted to discuss observations and identify areas for improvement. Officials from the Disaster Management and Fire Departments highlighted the importance of providing basic disaster management training to Departmental staff. Shri Gaurang Mishra, Director of Economics & Statistics, acknowledged the shortcomings identified and assured that they would be addressed in the next drill.
