Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 8: The Department of Education is organizing a Five-Day Chess Training Programme titled “Empower Girls through Chess” from 8th to 13th October 2025 at the Auditorium of Govt. Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Sri Vijaya Puram. The training is meant for girl students of Classes I to VIII and aims to help them learn, play, and enjoy the game of chess while building confidence and resilience.
To mark the beginning of the programme, Mr. Mohd. Irshad Ahmed, Assistant Director (PE/Sports), made the first move on the chessboard in the presence of Ms. Ireena, Principal In-Charge, and the school staff.
Around 150 girl students are participating in the training sessions with great enthusiasm. The sessions are being conducted during the last three periods of the school day and are designed to be interactive, fun, and beginner-friendly, covering the basics of chess, tactics, strategies, and guided practice games.
This initiative aims to empower girl students, nurture their potential, and inspire confidence and resilience through chess, while promoting focus, critical thinking, and sportsmanship.
