
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 15: Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, along with a delegation of the Fishermen Welfare Association and members of the fishing community, met the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration today, 15th September 2025 to highlight unresolved issues concerning the Modern Fish Market at Mohanpura. The delegation expressed serious concern over the suspension of electricity supply to the Modern Fish market, which has directly affected their daily livelihood activities. This has happed due to non-clearance of electricity charges over the years by the Self-Help Group which was entrusted to upkeep and maintain the said Fish Market as per the agreement executed between the Municipal Council and Self Heap Group.
In addition, the long-pending matter regarding the construction of the newly proposed Fish Market at Dignabad was also discussed. The MP emphasized the need for early execution of this project to enhance livelihood facilities for the fishermen community in the locality.
The Chief Secretary, after listening to the issues raised by the Hon’ble MP and the grievances presented by the fishermen, assured that the matter regarding the Modern Fish market issue is under review and will be resolved within a week, keeping in view the livelihood and welfare of the fishermen community.
