Hands-on Workshop on Practical Perspective of Space Communication Commences at Science Centre

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 20: A three-day hands-on workshop on “Practical Perspective of Space Communication” commenced today at Science Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram. The workshop is being organized in collaboration with Decibel, An Academy for Applied Space Communication, Bangalore and will continue till April 22, 2026. Around 60 selected students, along with teachers from various schools and higher educational institutions in & around Sri Vijaya Puram are participating in the programme.

The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Rajanish Kumar Singh, IAS, Secretary, Science & Technology, who graced the function as chief guest. Addressing the participants, the chief guest appreciated the efforts of the Science Centre for organizing such a workshop for the first time in the islands and emphasized the importance of practical exposure in emerging fields like space communication.

Shri B. A. Subramani, ISRO Space Simulation Engineer from U R Rao Satellite Centre, Bangalore briefed the participants on the topics to be covered during the workshop. The session includes practical exposure on real-time tracking and pass prediction of satellites and space objects, demonstrations on Ham Radio and receiving and decoding of live weather images from satellites among other activities.

Shri Naresh Chafekar, National Coordinator, Vigyan Bharati, also addressed the gathering. On the occasion, the brochure of Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan 2026–27 was released.

Earlier, Shri Debasish Paul, Education Officer, Science Centre, welcomed the gathering and presented an overview of the workshop.    The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Manu Vashishtha, Curator, Science Centre who encouraged the students to actively engage in scientific learning activities.
