ICAR-CIARI Organises Hands-on Research Exposure through Summer Internship Programme for JNRM Students

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 25: Summer Internship Programme organized by the ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI), Sri Vijaya Puram, concluded successfully on June 22, 2026. The programme was conducted from May 14 to June 22, 2026, and was attended by 11 B.Sc. Botany students and 02 M.Sc. Botany students from Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM), Sri Vijaya Puram.

The internship programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sujatha T., Principal Scientist, Animal Science Division and I/c. PG Cell. Academic supervision and coordination were provided by Dr. Pooja Bohra, Senior Scientist; Dr. Ajit Arun Waman, Senior Scientist, Horticulture and Field Improvement Division; Dr. Ramakrishna, Principal Scientist & Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), South Andaman; and Dr. Pooja Kapoor, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS), KVK South Andaman.

During the training period, the students received hands-on exposure to advanced laboratory facilities, research farms, and various scientific activities of the institute. They were trained in modern research techniques including DNA isolation, chlorophyll estimation, antimicrobial assays, phytochemical analysis, medicinal plant studies, and the operation of sophisticated laboratory instruments. The participants also visited different research divisions and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (South Andaman), gaining practical insights into agricultural research and extension activities.

At the valedictory session held on June 22, 2026, Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR-CIARI, interacted with the students and reviewed their learning experiences, research activities, and overall achievements during the internship programme. The students shared their experiences and highlighted the valuable knowledge and practical skills they had gained throughout the training.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Jai Sunder appreciated their enthusiasm and encouraged them to pursue higher studies and research in agriculture and allied sciences. He emphasized the importance of scientific innovation and interdisciplinary research in addressing future agricultural challenges.

The programme concluded with the distribution of Internship Certificates to all participating students by the Director. The internship provided an excellent platform for young scholars to enhance their scientific knowledge, research aptitude, and practical skills, thereby contributing to their academic and professional development.
