ICAR-CIARI Organizes Awareness on Promotion of Socioeconomic Status and Self-Employment of Nicobarese Tribes through Ethno Veterinary Tribal Medicinal Knowledge and Erbal Production Development

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 14: A one-day awareness on Promotion of socioeconomic status and self-employment of Nicobarese tribes through ethno veterinary tribal medicinal knowledge and herbal production development’’ was organized at Livestock farm complex, ICAR-CIARI under the DST funded project.  A total of 30 Nicobari tribal college students of Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, Sri Vijaya Puram participated in this programme.

During the programme, Dr. T. Sujatha, Pr. Scientist and coordinator of the programme presented details of what is ethno veterinary medicine, its role and importance as a part one health programme. She motivated the students to use herbal decoctions for minor ailments of both human and animal to combat the emergence of antimicrobial resistance. She also briefed about many simple herbal formulations for various diseased conditions such as deworming, ectoparasiticides, bloat, diarrhoea and for viral infections in livestock and poultry. The participants got knowledge on this new avenue and area of global importance.
