
Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 21: IGNOU Regional Centre- Port Blair in collaboration with St. Albert College (Autonomus), Kerala inaugurated ‘Skill Development Centre’ under Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan (UBA) at Calvary Children’s Home, Badmash Pahad, Chouldari on Wednesday, 20th August 2025. Under, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan campaign IGNOU Regional Centre has adopted three villages namely- Badmash Pahad, Chouldari and Port Mouat, and IGNOU Regional Centre- Port Blair is committed to contribute in the holistic development of these villages.
The Skill Development Centre was inaugurated by Mr. Bikash Mondal, Extension Officer, Ferrargunj Block. He appreciated the effort taken by IGNOU and Calvary Children’s Home to establish the Skill Development Centre and appealed to villagers to join the training centre. He emphasised that Skill Development Centre will impart the skills to people of these villages that will help them to become economically independent. Regional Director of IGNOU RC-Port Blair Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob and Dr. Uday Kumar Assistant Regional Director, -cum-coordinator UBA program, also addressed the gathering and shared IGNOU`s effort in realising the goal of developed villages in Andaman & Nicobar Islands under the UBA scheme. Mr. Mathew Varghese, Director Calvary Children’s Home made the key note address.
The training session was led by Ms. Sangita Mondal, ASO and Ms. Asma BibI, SPA supported by Mr. Appa Rao. Sixty five villagers including , un employed women, , youth and other people have participated in the program and learnt basic skills in the training session.The training included the preparation sanitary items which is essential in the day today life of human beings and also to give a new direction to earn the lively hood of villagers.
