I am deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Dr. Shanmugam, the former Director of Health Services, Andaman & Nicobar Administration.
Dr. Shanmugam, one of the notable persons of the Islands, was a remarkable individual known for his helping nature and unwavering dedication to his profession.
During his tenure as Director of Health Services, the Islands have experienced significant changes in the health sector and improvements in the lives of the islanders.

New Delhi, Dec. 6: The Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray yesterday (5th December 2024) met Shri Ashutosh Agnihotri, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and discussed on various burning issues pertaining to the Islands. Some of the important issues those were discussed include Land Conversion, Land regularization, pathetic condition of 32 jetties, Pre and post 1978 forest encroachments issue, implementation of Vivek Rae committee recommendations, PRI budget issues, Integrating ANIIMS with AIIMS, New Delhi, prevailing power crisis, Smart City project fund diversion among other issues.

One such story is that of a CwSN student named Kumar Birbal Lohra, a Class 10 student from GSSS Vijay Nagar, through his model titled ‘Endemic Species of A&N Islands’ in the Rajya Stariya Bal Vaigyanik Pradarshani has astounded everyone with his remarkable artistic talent. He has created impressive models using clay featuring countless species native to the A&N Islands, including the rare leatherback turtle found exclusively in Campbell Bay. Despite being unable to hear or speak, this talented student has found a powerful voice through his art, which speaks volumes about his passion and dedication.
