Port Blair, May 21: As part of the economic measures under Atma Nirbhar Bharat (ANB) scheme announced by the Government of India to mitigate the hardships faced by the stranded migrants due to lockdown imposed as per COVID19 guidelines, the Central Government allocated Rice and Chana to be distributed free of cost for two months. The food Corporation of India provided Rice to this Department whereas Chana whole shall be made available by NAFED at the earliest. According to this scheme, those stranded migrants who are not covered under Public Distribution System i.e. not issued with Ration Cards in this UT shall be provided with Rice @ 5Kg per person and Chana whole @ 1Kg per household free of cost for two months (i.e. May and June, 2020).

Port Blair, May 21: In order to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19 in Port Blair City, PBMC has been taking the following initiatives with an active participation of Elected Representatives:-

1) SANITATION WORKS :-

  1. a) DESILTING OF MAJOR DRAINS:-

PBMC well before the onset of Monsoon has engaged its sanitation workers and machineries to desilt all major and minor drains across 24 wards. Desilting of drains is a crucial aspect of monsoon preparedness to arrest overflow of drains.

Transport Directorate Issues SOP’s for Plying Autorickshaws

Port Blair, May 20: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), GOI has directed the national Executive Committee (NEC) to take lockdown measures so as to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Following the NDMA’s directions, the Chief secretary, A&N Administration has directed that the guidelines on the measures to be taken by the Ministries / Departments of Government of India, State/UT Governments and State/ UT Authorities for containment of COVID -19 in the country upto 31/5/2020 issued by MHA dated 17/5/2020 shall be applicable to the whole of A&N Islands. In said order, the entire South Andaman has been classified as Green Zone based on the parameters shared by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, except the containment zone (s) as is / may be notified by the District Magistrate, South Andaman from time to time.
