Mayabunder, April 21: The District Magistrate N&M Andaman District in order to prevent spread of COVID-19 infections in the district has imposed restrictions on public gatherings.

Accordingly restrictions have been imposed on Social/ Academic/ Sports/ Entertainment/ Cultural/ Religious/ Political functions and other congregations which are to be conducted with explicit approval of the District Magistrate. In gatherings related to marriage not more than 50 persons are allowed and for funeral / last rites not more than 20 persons are permitted. Any persons/ organisation violating the above directions will be liable to be fined to the tune of Rs. 10,000/-

Port Blair, April 21: This is for the information of the commuters/general public that to curb the spread of COVID positive cases in A&N Islands for the safety of the people the District Administration has revised the existing Corona Curfew from 10 pm to 5am to 09 pm to 5 am. In view of this, this Directorate has decided to curtail the existing passenger/Vehicle ferry service between Chatham - Bambooflat, Chatham- Dundus Point, Phoenix Bay – Bambooflat /Panighat during night hours. The last passenger/vehicle ferry service will be available for commuters during night hours in the above routes as under:-

The Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands condoles the demise of Shri  Anand Prakash  IAS, former Chief Secretary of A& N Islands during the period 2012-2016.He was settled at Dehradun, Uttarakhand after his retirement and was undergoing treatment for cancer. The Association recalls many initiatives by him for the welfare of employees during his tenure as the Chief Secretary of the Islands. The Association conveys heartfelt grief at his untimely death.

Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands has deeply mourned the demise of Shri Anand Prakash, Ex-Chief Secretary, A&N Administration who passed away at Delhi.  He prayed to Almighty to give eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family members to bear the irreparable loss. Shri Anand Prakash did many developmental works for the Islands while working as Chief Secretary from 2012 to 2016.

Port Blair, April 20: Despite the robust vaccination drive being carried out by the Administration in different parts of A&N Islands besides significant increase in the number of testing and strict enforcement of COVID-19 appropriate behavior by Police & concerned authorities, the Islands are witnessing a steep rise in the number of COVID positive cases. A large number of positive cases are seen in the passengers coming from mainland. There have also been some reports of tampering with RTPCR negative report by the incoming passengers and the Administration has lodged FIR against such errant passengers.

In view of this, it was deemed necessary by the Administration to take proactive steps in order to protect the lives of the children, senior citizens and residents of these Islands. The Administration after reviewing the situation arising due to consistent rise in the number of COVID cases has announced measures to contain spread of COVID-19 cases in the Islands.
