Port Blair, Sept. 17: The Andaman & Nicobar Islands has been declared the ‘1st Swachh Sujal Pradesh’ in the entire country by the Hon’ble Jal Shakti Minister, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat during a felicitation programme held at DBRAIT Auditorium this evening. Presenting the award to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands & Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), the Minister congratulated the Lt. Governor, the entire team of A&N Administration, PBMC, PRIs, Political party representatives and the general public of A&N Islands in fulfilling the dream of the Prime Minister in achieving saturation in the implementation of his mission to make India a ‘Swacch Bharat’.

Environment Ministry’s Panel Shows Green Flag for Project Worth Rs. 72,622 Crores

Port Blair, Sept. 17: The prestigious project of holistic development of Great Nicobar Island (GNI) will transform the Island into a hub of port led development. The GNI project has been conceived based on the principles of Sustainable Development wherein the ecological, economic and social factors have been given due consideration at every stage. Considering the national importance of the project in view of the security, socio economic benefit and strategic location of transhipment terminal, the Govt. of India has conceived the project at an estimated cost of Rs. 72,622 crores after careful consideration of environmental status of Great Nicobar Island.

Port Blair, Sept. 18: Acting on a specific intelligence input received from reliable source, a Police team from Central Crime Station consisting of SI M.A. Rasheed, HC/264 Sanjay Kujur, PC/1067 N. Thangaraj, PC/2079 G. Ravi, PC/1143 K. Rajendran & PC/2836 Raja Rao intercepted one person namely Kumar Das S/o Late Sudhanya Das R/o Naldugari North 24 Parganas, West Bengal now at Burmanallah at arrival point of VSI Airport. The persons had arrived Port Blair from Kolkata on 15/09/2022 by flight. During checking of his personnel belongings, 875 grams of Ganja which was clandestinely concealed in the bag was seized and accused person was arrested observing all codal formalities.

Port Blair, Sept. 18: World Ozone Day celebration was held in Zoological Survey of India on Friday 16th September 2022.  The year 2022 is the 35th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, which was agreed on this day in 1987.

Port Blair, Sept. 18: The Indian Coast Guard conducted International Coastal Cleanup campaign at Radhanagar Beach, Swaraj Dweep Island on 17th Sep 22. Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) was the chief guest for the occasion. The event was conducted along in line with GoI initiative of “Swachh Sagar Surakshit Sagar”
