Sri Vijaya Puram, March 27: The much-anticipated three-day Literature Festival-Beyond Horizon: All India Writers’ Festival, being organized by the Department of Art and Culture, A&N Administration in association with Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi commenced this morning in the auditorium of TGCE with its inauguration by Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd), Hon'ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency as chief guest. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Sahitya Akademi, Shri Srinivasarao, representatives from Sahitya Akademi, senior officers from A&N Administration, writers and poets from different parts of the country and local writers/poets were also present on the occasion.

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 27: Responding to the long-standing demand of students from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands for the reservation of seats in the M.Sc Nursing course in states like West Bengal and Kerala, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, took up the matter with the Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, Shri JP Nadda. In response to the MP’s request, the Hon’ble Minister has communicated that the matter has been taken up with the respective State Governments for further consideration. This initiative aims to enhance opportunities for students from the Islands to pursue higher education in nursing in reputed institutions across the country.

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 27: The Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO), in association with India Tourism, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, organised a Heritage Tour of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island (formerly Ross Island) for the BBA (Tourism) students of Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM) on 27th March 2025. The initiative was part of industry-academia collaboration aimed at giving students practical exposure to heritage tourism.

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 27: Upon the direction of Commissioner Food Safety, A&N Islands (DCSA), the Joint Commissioner (Food Safety)/ADM (SA) along with a team of Food Safety Officials conducted field inspection at the Fish Market, Junglighat today. The inspection was conducted to check the use of harmful chemicals such as formalin in fishes being sold in the South Andaman District. Harmful chemicals are used sometimes to prolong the freshness of fish.

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 27: In a significant welfare initiative, the A&N Police had entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India on 25th January 2023 to extend the benefits of the Police Salary Package to   all   its   staff.   This   comprehensive package includes 'Accidental Insurance of Rs. 40 lakhs in the event of an unfortunate demise.

In a poignant example, the claim for accidental insurance following the tragic demise of Late Leela Devi, HG(R)/254 who lost her life in a road accident, has been efficiently processed as the maiden case under this package.  The deceased’s legal heir Smti. Seema Devi W/o Aman Kumar R/o South Point received a sum of Rs.  40.00 lakhs under the ‘Police Salary Package on 21st March 2025.
