Port Blair, May 10: As per Meteorological Department’s weather report, heavy to very heavy rain (07-20 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over Andaman Islands. Heavy rain (07-11 cm) is likely to occur at one or two places over Nicobar Islands and thundersquall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph) is also likely to occur at one or two places over A&N Islands on May 11. Port Blair, May 10: In view of recent cyclonic alert as per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) report, Cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over South East Bay of Bengal, which may concentrate into a deep depression over South East Bay of Bengal, the Electricity Department has appealed to the consumers to pass on information to the nearest site office, if they observe flash, abnormal sound in the power system, so that the technical team can reach and solve the problem. The falling and snapping of line could be dangerous; hence the citizens have been requested to report such happenings to the nearest Site Offices, Police Stations, Fire Brigade, so that safety measures can be taken. They have also been requested to stay away from the snapped lines.

Port Blair, May 10: The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration proposes to implement the components ‘Support for Acquisition for Deep Sea Fishing Vessel (FRP/Steel)’ for native fishermen of A&N Islands during the year 2023-24 under PMMSY.

The component on assistance for acquisition of deep sea fishing Vessel (FRP/Steel) for native fishermen envisages subsidy @ 40% of the unit cost (120 Lakh) with a ceiling of Rs. 48.00 Lakh for general category and 60% with a ceiling of Rs.72.00 lakh for Schedule Tribe / Women and their Cooperative Societies towards ‘Support for Acquisition for Deep Sea Fishing Vessel (FRP/Steel)’ for native fishermen.

Port Blair, May 10: The Directorate of Industries, Andaman & Nicobar Administration organized a short term Skill Development training program on ‘Handicrafts (Coconut Shell & Wood) products’ at Gram Panchayat, Namunaghar from 17th April, 2023. Altogether, 25 candidates participated in the training program and were imparted the basic skills and knowledge for making handicrafts, thus creating self-employment opportunities and avenues for their livelihood.
