Port Blair, May 21: In order to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19 in Port Blair City, PBMC has been taking the following initiatives with an active participation of Elected Representatives:-

1) SANITATION WORKS :-

  1. a) DESILTING OF MAJOR DRAINS:-

PBMC well before the onset of Monsoon has engaged its sanitation workers and machineries to desilt all major and minor drains across 24 wards. Desilting of drains is a crucial aspect of monsoon preparedness to arrest overflow of drains.

Port Blair, May 21:  In view of the relaxations given by the A & N Administration during the lockdown 4 period, Transport Department has decided to start the following activities related to Motor Vehicle Section:

Port Blair, May 20: The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration in an Order dated 17.05.2020 has directed that the guidelines on the measures to be taken by the Ministries/departments of Govt. of India, State/UT Governments and State/UT Authorities for containment of COVID-19 in the country upto 31.05.2020 issued by MHA dated 17.05.2020 shall be applicable to the whole of A&N Islands. In the said order the entire South Andaman District has been classified as Green Zone based on the parameters shared by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, except the containment zone(s) as is/may be notified by the district Magistrate, South Andaman from time to time.

Transport Directorate Issues SOP’s for Plying Autorickshaws

Port Blair, May 20: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), GOI has directed the national Executive Committee (NEC) to take lockdown measures so as to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Following the NDMA’s directions, the Chief secretary, A&N Administration has directed that the guidelines on the measures to be taken by the Ministries / Departments of Government of India, State/UT Governments and State/ UT Authorities for containment of COVID -19 in the country upto 31/5/2020 issued by MHA dated 17/5/2020 shall be applicable to the whole of A&N Islands. Port Blair, May 20: Drawing the attention of the Lt. Governor on the decision of the Administration to bring stranded islanders by ship from Kolkata, the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has demanded that the stranded islanders be brought to the islands immediately by flights, since there is no rail connectivity to the islands and getting people by ship will be risky.
