Port Blair, June 5: The valedictory function of World Environment Day celebration on the theme ‘Land Restoration, Desertification & Drought Resilience’ under the slogan ‘Our Land.Our Future. #We are Generation Restoration’, organized by Zoological Survey of India was held in the Seminar Hall of TGCE here this evening. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS was the chief guest on the occasion while the DGP, Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS was the guest of honour. The program was attended by students, parents and staff/officials of ZSI and TGCE.

Port Blair, June 5: The team of ophthalmic surgeons led by Dr. Anjali Koteshwar (Assistant Professor, Department of Ophthalmology) from ANIIMS/GBPH have successfully accomplished remarkable and herculean task of operating upon almost 50 patients from Car Nicobar, hailing from 11 different villages. These patients were suffering from various eye conditions including cataract impairing their daily lives. Though most of the cases were challenging because of long standing illness and associated medical problems like raised blood pressure and sugar, the most arduous was to operate upon a 14-year-old child who had no vision in one eye since birth due to cataract. After a series of pre-operative tele-consultations from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Guru Nanak Eye Centre (GNEC), Lok Nayak Hospital (LNH), Delhi, the patient was operated in GBPH by the team of efficient doctors in ANIIMS. With utmost difficulty and after an intensive medical treatment of the child, the surgery was done in coordination with GNEC.

Port Blair, June 4: It is a proud moment for the islands that Chittiboina Mageswari, a budding chess player and student of class IX, Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School Port Blair shined in the 5th UCA Open Rapid & Age Category Chess Tournament 2024 held on 2nd June 2024 in Bengaluru, Karnataka by finishing 6th in Under 14 Category. She scored 4 points out of 7 Rounds and secured 6th position in the tournament. She was awarded a trophy and a certificate for this achievement.

Car Nicobar, June 5: The Dr. B. Srikanth Memorial T-20 Cricket Tournament-2024, Season VIII, concluded with an exhilarating final match between Police-A Team and Small Lapathy Sporting Club, held at the BJR Stadium. Police-A Team emerged victorious, showcasing outstanding skill and determination that captivated fans and dignitaries alike.
The closing ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District, Chief Guest, Sh. Lionel Nicomede, CTC, Tribal Council, Guest of Honor and Sh. Sunny Gupta IPS, SP, Nicobar District.
