Port Blair, July 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the new integrated terminal building or NITB of the Veer Savarkar International Airport at Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Tuesday.

Civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union minister of state for road, transport and highways and civil aviation, general (retd) VK Singh and senior officials attended the ceremony.

Port Blair, July 18: In an initiative that will bring huge relief to Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD) patients of A&N Islands, an Arteriovenous (AV) Fistula Creation Camp will be organized in GB Pant Hospital, ANIIMS, Port Blair from July 19 to 21, 2023. Patients needing dialysis and earlier had to go to mainland to create an AV Fistula, can now avail the service here itself. To facilitate needy patients, GB Pant Hospital, A&N Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) has invited Surgeons from Hospital empanelled under Ayushman Bharat to create AV Fistula for about 30-35 patients lined up for the surgery. This endeavor will provide ease to the patients suffering from Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD) and will also cut down their out-of-pocket expenditure on the procedure which was available only in mainland.

Port Blair, July 18: The Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma today met the Hon’ble Union Minister for Civil Aviation, GoI, Shri. Jyothiraditya M. Scindia and demanded introduction of international flights from VSI Airport, Port Blair.

During the interaction, Kuldeep Rai Sharma emphasized the immense benefits that would arise from operating international flights from VSI Airport Port Blair, including job creation, economic growth and a significant boost to the tourism industry in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

1) FLAT RATES FOR STRETCHER PATIENTS:  The absence of any super speciality hospitals in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands is a significant challenge for the Islanders. When patients need to be referred to mainland hospitals for specialized treatments, they are burdened with hefty stretcher charges. He requested that measures be taken to provide a fixed "flat rate" for stretcher patients, ensuring their convenience and reducing financial burdens.
