Port Blair, Jan.12: The vaccination drive is continuing smoothly in A&N Islands. As per data available, a total of 5, 99, 832 beneficiaries in the age group of 18 and above have been vaccinated so far in A&N Islands.    Similarly, 16,732 beneficiaries have been vaccinated in the age group of 15 to 18 years against the target beneficiaries of 23,000. The number of beneficiaries administered precautionary dose of vaccine today stood at 1457.

Enforcement Team Imposes Fines for Violations

Port Blair, Jan 11: In order to ensure containment measures of isolation and social distancing in the South Andaman District and with strategic intervention focusing on containment, test, track, surveillance, clinical management, vaccination and Covid Appropriate Behaviour to control any surge of the cases of COVID-19 strict enforcement drive was carried out by the District Administration in all the places of South Andaman District.

Port Blair, Jan 11: The newly inducted passenger-cum-Cargo vessel Sindhu of the Directorate of Shipping Services with technical and operational constrains was ineffective in providing passenger services post-delivery. The vessel Sindhu had to abandon her maiden voyage to Hut Bay on 25th August 2021 and returned to Port. In order to address the shortcomings which were technical in nature and to improve the operational ability of the vessel, the Directorate of Shipping Services took up strongly with the builder of the vessel M/s Cochin Shipyard Ltd and the Technical Consultant M/s Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. Accordingly the team consisting of experts of  Cochin Shipyard Limited, Service Engineers of Kawasaki and Nabtesco and Senior Officer of SCI Ltd. alongwith the officials of Directorate of Shipping Services took up the investigation to find out the cause of such difficulties in operating the vessel.

Port Blair, Jan 11: In yet another case under POCSO Act, 2012, on 10th January 2022, the Hon’ble Special Judge (POCSO) Shri. Raja Chatterjee had pronounced judgment by which accused namely Shyam Chand Halder, Son of Late. Binay Halder, resident of Shaheed Dweep has been convicted for a term of 20 years of rigorous imprisonment together with fine of Rs. 5,000/- in default of payment of such fine further 6 months of imprisonment.
