Port Blair, March 24: Safety of commuters especially females and other vulnerable persons is a prime concern area while travelling in public passenger transport vehicles like Cabs, Taxis, Public Buses etc. Hence, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Govt. of India has proposed a system to enhance the safety of the women and the girl children by equipping with Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) and Emergency Buttons for raising alerts in case of emergency in all the public passenger transport vehicles.  Accordingly, the Ministry has amended the CMVR 1989 by inserting Rule 125H that confirms to AIS-140 Standard and the Commercial Vehicles (except 2 & 3 wheelers) are required to be fitted with VLT Device (GPS) and emergency button.

Port Blair, March 24: In its weekly legal awareness programme ‘Kanoon ki baat’, All India Radio Port Blair will broadcast a LIVE phone in interactive programme on the topic ‘Scheduled castes and Scheduled Tribes  (Prevention of Atrocities) Act’.  It will be broadcast on 26.03.2021(Friday) from 0715hrs to 0800hrs.

Port Blair, March 23: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to issue necessary directives to the APWD to carry out the works of extension, upgradation and repair of roads in Swaraj Dweep at the earliest to facilitate the commuters. The works include:

Extension of black top road for a length of 800 mtrs from the existing road already constructed upto Fire Station in Swarj Dweep.

South Andaman Police Arrest Five involved in Online Recruitment Scam for the Post of Navik in ICG

Port Blair, March 23: An information was received from Centre for Development of Advance Computing (C-DAC) Port Blair on 20th March 2021 regarding remote accessing of one computer system during the online recruitment examination for the post of Navik, Indian Coast Guard (ICG). It is the C-DAC which was conducting the online recruitment examination on behalf of ICG. Based on the information, South Andaman Police led by Sh. Ravi Kumar Singh, SP/South Andaman and Sh. Narra Chaitanya, SDPO/South Andaman reached to the spot of examination centre, that is Elite Computer Solution Dollygunj, Port Blair. With technical help, the compromised computer system was identified and suspected examinee/candidate was zeroed down.

Blue Flag beach is an eco-tourism model endeavouring to provide sustainable infrastructure for the tourists visiting Swaraj Dweep. The project aims to beautify the whole length along the road side in first phase of the project, covering a stretch of 2-3 kms.
