Port Blair, July 5: The South Andaman District Police continues to demonstrate its unyielding attitude against the illicit trade and poaching of wildlife animals has achieved great success on seizure of 23.375 Kgs of venison.

On 26/06/2024, during patrolling near Tushnabad by SI Devanand Pathak, SHO PS Ograbraj along with ASI Suleman Beck, HC S. Vijay Kumar, HG(R) Sundra Bai and PC (D) Prokash Halder in Government vehicle, they notice that a lady with an aluminium container in her hand rushing towards her house in a suspicious manner. Suspecting illegal activity, the lady was intercepted and during checking it was found that the aluminium container was completely filled with venison packed in plastic polythene and one head of deer. Further, the venison and deer head were seized on the spot and the lady was detained after observing all codal formalities. Later, all the seized wildlife products and detained lady were handed over to Forest Officials for further necessary action at their end.

Port Blair, July 5: Under the chairmanship of Shri Arjun Sharma (IAS), the Deputy Commissioner South Andaman, a pivotal meeting for the Pradhan Mantri Matsya SampadaYojana (PMMSY) was held today, marking a significant stride towards boosting the fisheries sector.

The session focused primarily on concurrence of the proposal on Acquisition of Deep Sea Fishing Vessel under PMMSY & selection of 38 beneficiaries for various subsidy programs including construction of new pond for brackish water aquaculture, purchase of insulated vehicles two wheeler with ice box, three wheeler with ice-box, re-circulatory aquaculture system, cold storage/ice plant etc. From this insightful meeting, the Committee extended the time period for last date for submission of subsidy claim for 24 beneficiaries.

Port Blair, July 5: In continuation to the A & N Administration’s Press Note published in the Daily Telegram on 27.06.2024, shortlisted candidates were informed to attend Trade/Skill Tests for recruitment to the post of Lascar and Oiler in Environment and Forests Department on 09.07.2024 at Swimming Pool, Near Netaji Stadium, Port Blair but due to administrative reason, it has been postponed. Now, the Trade/Skill Test will be conducted on 30.07.2024 at the same venue and time.

Port Blair, July 5: World Zoonoses Day is observed on July 6th every year to raise awareness about the risk of zoonotic diseases, which are diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans. The day commemorates the work of French Biologist Louis Pasteur, who successfully administered the first vaccine against rabies, a zoonotic disease, on July 6, 1885. The observance emphasizes the importance of understanding zoonoses, improving control and prevention measures, and promoting the One Health approach.

Port Blair, July 5: The vessel MV Swaraj Dweep will sail from Port Blair to Chennai on July 9 at 0900 hrs. Excess baggage will be loaded from 1400 hrs to 1600 hrs on July 8. Excess baggage/cargo are required to be booked in advance at Commercial Wing, DSS. Embarkation of passengers will commence from 0700 hrs on July 9. The embarkation of passengers will be closed one hour before the schedule time. Passengers reporting late will not be allowed to board the vessel.
