Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 17: The Khadi and Village Industries Board organized a Khadi promotional activity at JNRM as part of the ongoing Khadi Mahotsav celebrations. The programme aimed to promote awareness among young students about the significance of Khadi and its journey from a symbol of India’s freedom movement to a sustainable fabric of the modern fashion world.
Dr. Pearl Devdas, Principal, JNRM as the chief guest appreciated the efforts of the Board in encouraging students to understand the legacy and cultural importance of Khadi. She emphasized that supporting Khadi not only preserves India’s heritage but also strengthens rural industries and artisans across the country.
During the session, students were briefed on the origin and evolution of Khadi, highlighting its transition from traditional wear to contemporary fashion. They were urged to support rural weavers and artisans by adopting Khadi in their daily lives and spreading awareness of its benefits as an eco-friendly, all-weather fabric.
A Khadi sales-cum-exhibition was also held on the college premises, where students and staff showed keen interest in exploring and purchasing a wide range of Khadi products. The initiative successfully reflected the growing enthusiasm among youth toward sustainable and indigenous textiles.
