Legal Awareness Session Organised at TGCE as Part of Observance of International Human Rights Day

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 10: In observance of International Human Rights Day, PRAYAS (JAC), in a significant collaborative initiative with the Andaman & Nicobar State Legal Services Authority and the District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, conducted a comprehensive Legal Awareness Session today at Tagore Government College of Education (TGCE).

The programme was inaugurated in the presence of eminent dignitaries from the judiciary and the education sector. The session aimed to enlighten trainee teachers on the foundational principles of human rights, constitutional safeguards, and the crucial role of legal literacy in building a just and informed society.

The event was graced by distinguished speakers viz. Shri Rashid Alam, Member Secretary, A&N State Legal Services Authority; Shri Neyaz Alam, Ld. Additional District & Sessions Judge, Port Blair and Shri Samrat Roy, Ld. Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, A&N Islands.

The dignitaries addressed the gathering, emphasizing the universality and indivisibility of human rights, the constitutional and legal frameworks for their protection, and the responsibility of every citizen, especially educators, in upholding and promoting these rights.

The PRAYAS (JAC) delegation was led by Ms. Marya Sheela, Regional Head, PRAYAS, and Shri K. Vijay Kumar, Advisor, PRAYAS. Their team coordinated closely with the Principal and teaching faculty of Tagore Government College of Education to organize this meaningful and interactive session, fostering productive dialogue between legal experts and the academic community.

This initiative reflects a shared commitment to promoting legal awareness as a cornerstone of democratic participation and social empowerment, resonating strongly with the spirit and purpose of International Human Rights Day
