“Let us make Andaman and Nicobar Islands drug-free”: Lt. Governor Administers Pledge to Youth

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 4: The Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dr. Dinesh Sharma Ji, today flagged off the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” Health Walk organized by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration from Marina Park, Sri Vijaya Puram. On the occasion, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor urged the youth to embrace the message of “My Health, My Pride”, administered a pledge to lead a drug-free life, and reiterated the commitment to make the Andaman and Nicobar Islands completely drug-free.

The Health Walk was organized under the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan” launched by the Government of India. The 100-week-long national campaign aims to create awareness among the youth against drug abuse and encourage them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Addressing the large gathering of youth, teachers, parents and public representatives, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Dr. Dinesh Sharma Ji, reiterated the Administration’s commitment towards taking stringent legal action against drug-related activities. He particularly emphasized the crucial role of parents and teachers, stating that the contribution of families and educational institutions is extremely important in keeping the younger generation away from drugs.

The Hon’ble Lt. Governor gave a clear message:

“Connect not with drugs, but with opportunities.”

“Connect not with inactivity, but with sports.”

“Connect not with despair, but with goals.”

“Connect not with loneliness, but with society and community.”

“And move not towards drugs, but towards nation-building.”

The programme was attended by Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray; Chief Secretary, Shri Gyanesh Bharti; Director General of Police, Shri Ravindra Singh Yadav; Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sinha; Adhyaksh, ZPSA, Shri P. Ummer; Chairperson, Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, Smt. Vasantha; senior officers of various departments; public representatives; school and college students; members of youth organizations; and a large number of local residents.

During the programme, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor administered the pledge collectively to all the youth present at the venue. Following the pledge ceremony, the youth enthusiastically participated in the Health Walk, which commenced from Marina Park and proceeded through the major routes of Sri Vijaya Puram.
