Martyr’s Day to be Observed Today in the Islands

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 29: As a mark of respect in memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom, Martyr’s Day will be observed tomorrow (Jan. 30). To mark the day, silence with due solemnity will be observed on the day for two minutes from 1100 hrs to 1102 hrs and work and movement will be stopped throughout the Islands.

As part of the observance, the Directorate of Disaster Management will blow siren to indicate the siren period. Accordingly, the siren will be blown from 1059 hrs to 1100 hrs and after two minutes from 1102 hrs to 1103 hrs. General Public have been urged not to panic during the blowing of siren during the designated period. All educational Institutions and Public sector enterprises have also been requested to ensure proper observance of the day.
