Car Nicobar, June 2: On May 31, 2025, a significant operation was carried out in the dense forest areas of Perka (Headquarters), Car Nicobar, under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District. The raid, executed in close coordination with the Station House Officer of PS Car Nicobar and an active police team, targeted illegal liquor manufacturing units operating covertly in the region.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the police team launched a well-planned jungle raid aimed at dismantling unauthorized distillation activities. During the operation, officers located and destroyed approximately 4,500 litres of “lahen” (fermented wash used in the distillation of illicit liquor). The fermented liquid was stored in several plastic containers and carefully concealed within dense undergrowth to evade detection.
In addition to the destruction of the illicit wash, the team recovered and seized multiple distillation apparatus and related materials from the site, which have been taken into police custody for further investigation.
This raid is part of an ongoing crackdown to eliminate illegal liquor production in the Nicobar Islands, as part of which 11890 litres of lehan has been destroyed and 259.8 litres of illicit liquor has been seized in the current year. The police remain committed to maintaining law and order and preventing harmful substances from infiltrating local communities.
