
Car Nicobar, Jan. 9: A meeting on the Adult BCG Vaccination Programme was held today at the Tribal Council, Big Lapathy, Car Nicobar, to discuss the implementation of the programme in Nicobar District. The meeting was chaired by Shri. Lionald Nicomed, Chairman, and Shri. Martin Luther, Secretary, Tribal Council, and was attended by all Village Headmen, Lady Representatives, and members of the Tribal Council, Car Nicobar.
The discussion focused on the forthcoming Adult BCG Vaccination Drive, scheduled to commence from 15th January, 2026 across Nicobar District, as part of the nationwide campaign to achieve the goal of Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination. Adult BCG vaccination has been identified as an important preventive intervention to reduce the risk of TB among vulnerable adult populations.
Officials from the Health Department, led by Dr. Anwar Moosa, District TB Officer (N), along with Shri. Ramesh Rao, District Programme Coordinator (DPC), and Shri. Suresh Kumar, Senior Treatment Supervisor (STS), attended the meeting. Dr. Anwar Moosa briefed the members on Tuberculosis, its types, modes of transmission, preventive measures, and treatment options, and also outlined the proposed plan for implementing the Adult BCG Vaccination Drive in Car Nicobar.
The members of the Tribal Council actively participated in the deliberations and assured their full cooperation for the successful implementation of the programme. The Council agreed to extend support by directing the Village First Captains to facilitate and mobilize community participation for conducting Adult BCG Vaccination sessions at community halls in various villages under Car Nicobar. The Tribal Council also assured active support to health staff in terms of coordination, community mobilization, and local facilitation to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of the Adult BCG Vaccination Drive.
