Wimberlygunj, Sept. 21: A Mega Voluntary Blood Donation Drive, themed “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.” was held at Gram Panchayat Wimberlygunj on 19 September 2026 and at TGCE Auditorium on 20 September 2026, along with screening for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Tuberculosis (TB). A total of 34 units of blood were donated by voluntary donors, while 34 individuals were screened for NCDs and TB during the programme.
The programme is being organized in association with the Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS), with technical support from the Blood Centre, G. B. Pant Hospital, ANIIMS, Sri Vijaya Puram, the State TB Cell, Sri Vijaya Puram, and the Urban Health Centre, Junglighat. The programme aims to promote voluntary blood donation and create awareness about the importance of maintaining an adequate and safe blood supply, along with screening for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Tuberculosis (TB).
The drive is being conducted under the guidance of Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society and Director, State Blood Transfusion Council, A & N Islands.
The camp was facilitated by Dr. Rahul, Medical officer incharge, PHC Wimberlygunj, Dr. Preeti Dutta, Medical officer incharge, UHC, Junglighat and Dr. Kriti Goel from Blood Bank, Sri Vijaya Puram. The donors were examined for their eligibility to donate blood and briefed the donors on various aspect and importance of blood donation.
Shri.V.K Abdul Aziz, Zilla Parishad Member, Brindaban and General Secretary, Andaman Nicobar Rajya Karmachari mahasangh organized the respective camp and made arrangement for conducting the camp successfully.
The technical team ensures that the donated blood units are appropriately processed and screened for transfusion-transmissible infections, in accordance with established blood safety protocols. Donor eligibility and safety are also assessed as part of the donation process.
