On the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, I extend my warm greetings to the people of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. This day serves as an important reminder of our collective responsibility to care for and protect the environment that sustains us all.
The theme for this year, “Ending Global Plastic Pollution -#BeatPlasticPollution,” underscores the urgent need to reduce plastic consumption, improve waste management practices and adopt eco-friendly alternatives. Plastic pollution poses a serious threat to our oceans, wildlife and human health. Addressing this challenge requires united and sustained efforts from individuals, communities and Governments alike.
Our islands are celebrated for their pristine beaches, rich biodiversity and vibrant marine ecosystems. However, we remain especially vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation. Rising sea levels, shifting weather patterns and the loss of native species directly affect our lives and livelihoods. It is our duty to protect these natural treasures- not just for ourselves, but for future generations.
Let us mark this day by committing to meaningful action: planting more trees, reducing plastic use, safeguarding marine life and keeping our surroundings clean. I call upon all nature-loving residents of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to join hands in building a greener, healthier and more sustainable environment.
Wishing everyone a joyful and inspiring World Environment Day!
