‘National Dolphin Day’, celebrated on October 5, 2026, provides us with an important opportunity to recognize the critical ecological significance of dolphins and to reaffirm our collective commitment towards the conservation and protection of their natural habitats. These natural habitats are essential for maintaining healthy, resilient, and vibrant aquatic ecosystems.
Dolphins are an integral part of our marine biodiversity and serve as key indicators of the health of aquatic ecosystems. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with their rich and diverse marine habitats, provide shelter to a wide variety of marine life, including dolphins. The conservation of dolphins is closely linked to the protection of our oceans, coral reefs, coastal ecosystems, and the livelihoods of communities dependent on marine resources. To address challenges such as marine pollution, habitat degradation, unsustainable fishing activities, and human interference, responsible behavior and collective efforts are imperative.
On the occasion of this 5th National Dolphin Day, I call upon the islanders, especially our youth, fishing communities, and all stakeholders, to actively contribute towards the conservation of dolphins and their natural habitats.
Let us protect our dolphins, ensure the safety of our marine areas, and preserve the rich marine heritage of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for future generations.
