Meticulous Investigation by Police Ensures 20-Year Jail for Convict in a Child Sexual Assault Case

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 25: On 19th November 2025, Shri Neyaz Alam, Hon’ble Special Judge (POCSO), Sri Vijaya Puram delivered a landmark judgment in a heinous case of sexual assault. Accused Sheikh Mehboob alias Gathi R/o South Point, Sri Vijaya Puram was convicted for committing aggravated penetrative sexual assault upon a minor girl aged 10 years. It is averred that the accused was neighbour of victim and he had committed sexual assault upon the minor child while victim was sleeping.

The incident came to light when the victim girl informed the incident to her parents. The matter was immediately reported to Police Station Aberdeen, leading to the registration of FIR No. 94/2023 dated 30.05.2023 U/s 7/8/9(m)/10/11(i)/11(iv)/12 of the POCSO Act. The case was investigated by SI N. Nandini under the supervision of the then SHO Girish Kumar.

During the trial, Miss A.S. Zinu, Special Public Prosecutor was conducted for and on behalf of the State. Further, the prosecution examined the witnesses and after thorough examination of evidences, the Hon’ble Court held the accused guilty and pronounced a stringent sentence:

-05 years rigorous imprisonment under Section 7/8 of the POCSO Act, along with a fine of Rs. 10,000/- with an additional 02 months imprisonment in default of payment.

-05 years rigorous imprisonment under Section 9(m)/10 of the POCSO Act, along with a fine of Rs 5000/- with an additional 01 month imprisonment in default of payment.

-05 years rigorous imprisonment under Section 11(i)(iv)/12 of the POCSO Act, along with a fine of Rs 5000/- with an additional 01 month imprisonment in default of payment.

-05 years rigorous imprisonment under Section 451 of the IPC, with a fine of Rs. 5,000/- and an additional 01 month imprisonment in default of payment.

While pronouncing the sentence, the Hon’ble Court strongly remarked on the gravity of the offence, emphasizing that the convict had grossly abused the position of trust, leaving the young victim physically and emotionally scarred. The Court further directed that a compensation of Rs. 2,00,000/- be provided to the survivor for her rehabilitation, welfare and future support.

This judgment underscores the judiciary’s unwavering commitment towards ensuring justice for children subjected to sexual abuse and reinforces the principle that crimes against minors will be met with the severest punishment to act both as justice for the victim and as a deterrent to society.
